Fibershed is a non-profit organization that develops regional fiber systems that build ecosystem and community health. Their work expands opportunities to implement climate benefitting agriculture, rebuild regional manufacturing, and connect end-users to the source of our fiber through education. They transform the economic systems behind the production of material culture to mitigate climate change, improve health, and contribute to racial and economic equity.
Through Kinabuhi’s partnerships with Fibershed Philippines, an affiliate of Fibershed, we aim to support Philippine farmers, yarn manufacturers and artisans work towards adopting regenerative practices. We are working together with Fibershed Philippines to develop regional roadmaps for Philippine natural fibre yarn and textile production. We are also working towards establishing partnerships with other organisations that will help us secure the funding to lease a plot of land to grow Philippine cotton fibres, pineapple and abaca using regenerative agricultural practices. Through this project, we aim to create an example that we hope to replicate in different locations across the country while also collecting data on the environmental impact of growing the fibre. In terms of environmental impact we are looking at water, climate change, and biodiversity.
